Surendra
Man Singh is a man who doesn't need
an introduction. He and his team
have given a big contribution to
Nepalese music industry. Today his
band "Karma Band" is regarded as one
of the most established band in
Nepal. Here is a short gossip with
Surendra Man Singh with one of our
journalist "Raj Chettri".
Raj Chettri:
Have you taken any kind of formal
vocal trainings?
Surendra: No, I
haven't taken any kind of formal
vocal trainings from any teachers or
institutions. I learned to climb
these steps of music from the elders
of my locality. It's there
suggestion that had encouraged me to
move ahead in this field.
Raj
Chettri: What was the reason why
your first album didn't did well in
the market?
Surendra: Yeh! I
agree that our first album didn't
did well like our other albums. The
way to music world was new to us
thus we felt difficulty in knocking
its door. Our first album was
composed of jazz and blues, which
was regarded new in the industry
thus we we had some difficulty in
marketing That time there weren’t
many medias that would help us to
market our album on the market.

Raj Chettri: We
heard that S.M.S. sold out more than
any of your albums. In your view,
what was the main reason for its
popularity?
Surendra: Well,
from my view point the albums was
packed with good songs and the view
of ours and the public was same
regarding the songs. They liked it
and it became a commercial hit.
Raj Chettri:
Is there any logic behind the naming
of your brand "Karma"?
Surendra: There was
a lot of hard work that we energized
in the formation of the band and the
songs. We had to work till late
night for all this. So, we thought
we did our karma by the effort we
had put on our work, like the reeyaz
for our songs. So, this way we
thought to brand our band as
"Karma".
Raj
Chettri: Do you direct your music
video yourself?
Surendra: Yes I do
direct some of my music video, but
that doesn't mean that I visualize
all my songs. Some of the visual are
made by the production house and we
do take assist from them to improve
the quality of our music video. Till
now our seven music videos have hit
the market.
Raj
Chettri: which one is your favorite
music video among these seven?
Surendra: The
visual of "Supari Dana" which is
included in my latest album is the
favorite music video of mine. The
visual of this song fits in the
rhythm of the song we have composed.
This music video will create the
fragrance of romance on the frame of
public mind.
Raj
Chettri: Do you choose the models
for the visual by yourself?
Surendra: Yes, this
is a fact that I choose my models
myself. Till now for all the visual
I have selected the models.
Raj
Chettri: What are the attributes a
model need to posses from your
viewpoint?
Surendra: For me a
model need to look good, should be
able to put the needed expression on
the demanded scene and should be
educated. An educated person knows
how to behave according to the
condition as s/he is career
oriented. They know what's good for
them and will act accordingly.
Raj
Chettri: On the contrary, we see lot
of girls that used to work on the
dance restaurant are now entering
the world of glam or modeling. So,
what is your viewpoint regarding
this?
Surendra: I am
positive toward this. Working in the
Dance restaurant is a personal thing
and if they want to show there
talent in the modeling then it's
fine with me. I think this trend
should be taken in a positive way
rather than in a negative way.
Raj
Chettri: Do you get any kind of love
proposal from your fans? If you do
from what media you usually get it
from?
Surendra: First of
all, my male fans outnumber the
ladies fan and I do get love
proposal from some of my fan. I get
it through sms, phone and mails. The
reason behind the male fans is due
to the songs that we sing. Our songs
are basically of Rock and jazz genre
and these kinds of songs are liked
more by males then females.
Raj
Chettri: What is your view regarding
the politics of our country?
Surendra: Politics
is must for governing a country but
it shouldn't be done in a way our
politicians are doing right now.
Raj
Chettri: Who is your favorite
personality in the horizon of
politics?
Surendra: For me,
it will always be Ganesh Man.
Raj
Chettri: What's your view point
regarding present condition of our
country?
Surendra : If the
strikes and collision between
different groups continues then I
feel in the coming days we will face
big problems. The country may go on
tribal or civil war?
Raj Chettri:
Is there any message that you want
to give to our politicians, public
and officials of our country?
Surendra: I just hope that
people will get aware about the
present condition of our country and
stops all the jam and bandhs that
different people are conducting in
the country. People from all sectors
should unite together and move the
country forward.
Raj Chettri:
Have you heard the name of our
website thikthak.com?
Surendra: Yes I have
and I do visit your site.
Raj Chettri:
What kind of experience do you get
by visiting our site?
Surendra: I feel
it’s the cocktail of information and
entertainment. I appreciate the
success that the site is getting in
the World Wide Web as it is regarded
as one of the top site of Nepal.
Raj
Chettri: Any suggestion for our
site?
Surendra: First of
all I would like to give
"Congratulation" on the success of
the site. Please keep up your good
work and thank you for the interview
