INTERVIEW WITH
THE AXE BAND
Axe doesn't needs and
explanation in the Nepalese
music stream, The axe has
already achieved the higher
degrees of success, They have
their own influential Funk
Nepali rock vision, even the 3
piece band has a great balance
and code of music . I personally
meet sharad Axe Guitarist when
he was on the tour in Hong Kong.
we talk about a lot of about
music and sharad talk about the
axe Project which they have
already been 14 years rocking
the Nation and the world wide
Neplese based Fans. we also had
a little time for the jam
session . we took some
pictures in the studio and visit
some best studios in Hong Kong .
(1)
What does the Axe Band means?
The Axe means the power. The
weapon of power. As for us, our
unity is our weapon and the
power is our music. Simple!
(2) How
is the band Influence 50, 60,
70; s let's say Rock ability or
new Age Rock of Nepal?
We won’t say the band is
influenced alone by earlier
generation and the new ones.
Yeah, we have been much into
hard rock generation like 70s
and much into new generation
music as well. However, the
scene in Nepal, people took our
kind as funk rock. So we
wouldn’t name it alone as some
genre, but definitely we love to
play funk rock, of course.
(3) So if you
can be a rock band of that
period for one day, who would
you choose and why? The question
is for individual Band members?
We all wish if the Nepali music
scene was already there like at
present. And we would be playing
as the axe itself.
(4)
After 14
years in one of the most well
known and highly regarded rock
bands in Nepal, how are you and
your band members able to keep
such a Brotherhood?
Well, simple man. We are friends
since our childhood. So the
friendship comes at first, then
the band. We do understand each
other well. We share our every
feelings and thoughts regarding
daily lives and else, so united
we are standing still.
(5) How tough is
this music industry ,have you
seen any changes between this 14
years of music journey ,If you
had to change what do you think
need to change?
Well, obviously the music
industry has changed of course
than the time we had started.
There used to be only cover
bands only at that time. The
Nepali music scene was just an
alien concept. Now since you are
already putting the word as
“industry” to the music, so
definitely it has changed.
Otherwise you couldn’t relate
the word “industry” to this. Due
to the music, there are lots of
media things happening these
days. Nepali artists are
performing across the globe. So
definitely there’s a change. It
has changed into an industry.
The things we would say to
change it a better way is that,
it needs the real “music” people
in the media/ industry who are
in music, at least who know
about music, at least some
knowledge about music. And man,
no track singers please! No
bloody one hit wonders! No sick
homophobic, No bloody
self-produced motherf****rs and
no pretenders of course! They
all suck! So they all need to be
kicked out of this scene.
(6)Who writes
the lyrics and the music, and
who is in charge of the
arrangements?
There’s no term of charge since
it’s a team work. So whatever
happens, it’s all shared
in-between. Normally about
lyrics stuffs, Shiva, the great!
Hahaha... Just give him a
concept; he would just drop fine
lines on the paper right away.
(7) Its great
you had tour whole part of Nepal
and abroad, which one is the
best and the most memorable
ones?
Well, our motherland of course.
Haina ta? Anyway it’s good to
see people appreciating the
band, the artist abroad. Every
time there’s some memories
indeed everywhere. So there are
lots of them. People might get
bored reading those ha ha...
just kidding!
(8) We also see
your music videos (Timro Najarle)
featuring the Bungee Jump
theory, How did you come up with
that decision and how does it
reflects that videos to you
guys?
Well, we always wanted to do
bungee once, and it’s Suren who
came up with an idea to make a
music vdo of that. Nepal is full
of adventure, everyone knows it.
We wanted to promote the most
exciting thing from our own
Nepal to the world, and believe
us, from then, lots of people
overflow to that place from all
over the globe to feel the
excitement. Even our own
Nepalese people go most often to
there. It’s good that because of
the vdo, people came to know
that Nepal has so much to offer
regarding adventurous stuff.
(9) How would
you describe the musical
atmosphere and the environment
in Nepal?
It’s good as it has turned to
industry itself. The technology,
media, etc. it’s absolutely good
in these manners. But some
people just take the music as a
wrong way to make a fake
personality which absolutely
sucks. Just pretenders really
want to be a rock star, some
icon. And that’s pretty fucking’
bullshit. One thing not
satisfactory that our Nepal
music market is very low, but
who cares? It’s going good
however. Ha ha ha.
(10)Do you have
favorite Band from Nepal, Can
you Name them?
We believe there are lots of
talented young musicians in the
underground scenes these days.
You can find better bands in
underground scene rather than in
a mainstream line. Robin Dai is
good, we love his way of singing
and for his rich voice. Looza is
another good band. Lots of them.
(11)You have any
free time? What are your
hobbies?
Free time? Don’t ask for it. Of
course we have lotta free time
ha ha... we would make time on
our own ni. haina ra? Well at
our leisure time, we just sit
idle, be on our own. We don’t
even call to one another. Just
being on our own with our
respective hobbies like “being
alone”, straying around, roaming
around, and just giving a damn
to each other. Ha ha...
Well hobbies, watching football,
hiking ‘round, straying ‘round,
etc.
(12) What is the
latest news from The Axe Band?
Just had two concerts in
Kathmandu. On June 21 on the
occasion of International Music
Day and On June 26 in the
occasion of World Drugs Day. We
are heading to Sydney, Australia
at September for a show.
(13) Coming up 5
albums in 14 years, Is there any
saucy part, your recent album
Kammasaka what does it Mean to
you, can you brief some of the
past experience you guys have?
Yes, we have 5 albums so far. In
the past, there were 4 members
in it. Sarad later joined in
2000 only. The music was like
folk based at the past. And now
it’s changed a little bit and
funk rock stuffs, some of the
hard rock stuffs as well going
on.
At past, we were addressed as a
wild band on the stage, related
with drugs and alcohol. But now
people are utterly amazed when
they find us absolutely clean
and still going wild on stage he
he..
Regarding our latest album “kammasaka”,
actually the word is taken from
pali language, the language
which was believed to be spoken
in the era of Lord Gautam
Buddha. And it means as, Kamma =
Karma and Saka = Shakti. So it
defines as Karma nai Shakti ho.
So our own deed is our power and
fate.
(14) So you guys
are very strong at Live No
doubt, the axe band have been
recognized as the most powerful
“live-band” in the recent Nepali
music scene. How proud are you
and what's the message to the
fans?
Yes, we feel good as people
demand the AXE on the concert;
they love our performance and
sing along with our every song.
That’s good absolutely. We have
come across the long journey,
it’s already been 14 years now,
and seeing all these
appreciation, everyone feels
happy of course. But we still
feel it’s not enough from our
side. People have loved us since
the past till date and we always
look for presenting our good
creation to them and look
forward to survive long.
Regarding message in general,
“DON’T DO DRUGS”. Always believe
on it!!
(15)Euta
chiitiko is a massive hit in
Nepal and abroad, who write it
and how did it came up shaping
the song?
Well Shiva wrote it of course.
We were just jamming up in our
practice room as usual. And
Sarad was with some of the cool
riffs on his guitar, and suren
just wished if we had a song on
that riff. And so the Shiva,
with his lyrics immediately
after some days. he he. That
song was the first song recorded
in the album.
Regarding music vdo, when we go
across the new road side, at
khichapokhari side, whenever we
go to Deep Music Store we just
go to that balcony of the shop
and watch the view of crowded
new road from there, and always
say to each other if sometimes
we perform in that balcony and
give a concert. And suren came
up with all idea to give it a
try. We just went there one
Saturday afternoon with all our
stuffs, music system. No one
knows that we were playing that
day. People were just passing
by.
And suddenly we just geared up
our stuff and stood in the
balcony and jammed, then people
came in front of, and we were
able to capture every natural
look and expression. We just
wanted to capture the real
expression of people , the
general people, how would they
react when they see the band
playing in the middle of the
road, and of course we were
quite succeed to find it and
captured all in the vdo.
And thanks to people who really
loved the vdo later.
(16)If you look
back to your career can you say
that you feel satisfied? Can you
say something to the Fans from
the band Side?
Satisfaction? Not yet! However,
people loved the band and the
music, so that is our
achievement rather than
receiving any crappy awards.
That’s the precious award which
we have received from our fans,
people all over the globe with
all those comments, suggestions
and support. Regarding
satisfaction from ourselves, we
think no one can feel easily
satisfied with his/her deed
immediately. When he/she feels
satisfied, then that would be
the day when he/she would be
ending his deed. So long way to
go to feel satisfaction!
Message to fans:
Do always send
us your valuable
feedbacks/comments/suggestions/criticisms
like before. By which we believe
we are able to stand our ground
still.
Message to general: Stay out of
drugs. It only gives you a fake
identification. Be real and
enjoy the nature.
Special thanks to nepalirocks.com
family
and thanking us from our team of
good spirit.
