Anyone
can sing to themselves or be a rock star in
their bathroom. It’s an achievement only
when you can do it in front of thousands of
people, probably dying to hear you croon at
your very best. It’s even better if you have
an excellent band backing you up. This
coming year you get a chance to let the
world recognize you for your worth: prove
your mettle at the Battle of the Bands.
Organised by Odyssey
Zorastrism, Battle of the Bands is just
that: a competition; but with a human face.
True, the main objective is to find and
proclaim the best and the tightest band to
date but there is a second motive as well.
The event is being organised to raise funds
for social causes. Part of the proceedings
will be donated to Dristy Nepal to support
and further their cause. Dristy Nepal works,
among their other projects, to raise
awareness about the drug issues that are
plaguing the youth section of the country.
They specifically work on HIV/AIDS issue and
their programs are targeted towards curbing
the spread of the deadly disease.
A platform and an attempt
to spread the message, the competing band in
the event will be judged on the genre of
music they present. The judges will be well
known musicians representing the same
category. Acoustic Punk has been roped in to
judge the punk act. Similarly, The Axe and
72 hrs will judge the rock and the metal
genre respectively. There are various
categories under which the performers will
be judged. Some of the categories are: best
vocalist, best composition, best battle band
(first and second), and lastly first and
second runner up performer (lead, rhythm,
drum, keyboard).
The deals are pretty
straight and simple. Participate and if you
are the best among the best, the prizes are
yours. Apart from the prizes, which include,
debut album deal, a music contract, and
loads of instrument to be won, the
underlying theme of the contest is to
support hidden musical talent. Supported by
WAVE, the event is also about enhancing the
musical talents of the performers all the
while helping Nepali music industry by
discovering new talents. From the sounds of
it, the event is going to be very musical
and electrifying. May the best band
win!
